2011-2012 Dance Policy
Dances at E. A. Cox Middle School create a positive, social atmosphere in which students feel comfortable and safe, featuring music that is appealing to a variety of students.
The following is a list of requirements and expectations for attending dances at E. A. Cox Middle School. Attendance at school dances requires that this form be signed by both the student and the student's parent or legal guardian. Remember: Attending a dance is a privilege, not a right!
Prior to Dance

This form must be signed and returned to the student's advisory teacher prior to being eligible to attend school dances. A parent note in the agenda is still required to attend each dance.
NOTES OR MONEY WILL NOT BE TAKEN IN THE OFFICE ON THE DAY OF A DANCE.
Requirements and Expectations During and After the Dances

Students must abide by all Maury County Board of Education Policies at dances.

Dances are for students of E. A. Cox Middle School only.

Students shall be picked up by parent or guardian no later than 15 minutes after the designated time (4:30 p.m.), or the student(s) will not be allowed to attend the next dance.

Students must be in school the entire day on the scheduled day of the dance.

Students assigned to in-school suspension (ISS) on the scheduled day of the dance shall not attend the dance.

Sexually suggestive dancing will result in a student being removed from the dance. Parents will be called to pick up the student. All dance moves should be done with dignity and self-respect.

Students are not to bunch up in tightly packed groups or bounce or push into each other. Running is not allowed.

Students are expected to comply with the directions of teachers and parent chaperones.

Public displays of affection are not allowed.
Dress Code

Chaperones

All dances will be chaperoned by staff members and parent volunteers. Parent chaperones will be selected from the PTO volunteer list and will be contacted prior to scheduled dances. All chaperones will meet in the gym lobby prior to dances to preview their assignments.
Music

The DJ at E. A. Cox Middle School will provide a play list with lyrics for all music played at dances and other school events. Dance committee members will review lyrics and approve appropriate music to be played.
